The first Hibak 4x4 takes shape
May 10th 2007
Details of the development and build of the first Hibak 4x4.
This is the result of stripping down our Donor Land Rover 200Tdi Discovery and cleaning the chassis -
areas of corrosion were repaired, before the Hibaks rear body support frame was
welded into place. The whole chassis and new support frame were then painted and
treated to rust proofing protection.
The Hibak uses the donor vehicles chassis in it entirety (un-like the Dakar), even the original fuel
tank is retained. The gap in the support frame on the left hand side of the
chassis shown here is to provide space for the fuel tank filler neck to be
accommodated.
As with all out builds, the donor vehicle gets a comprehensive service whilst
parts are easily accessible. Here we have replaced the Diesel fuel filter
assembly that
sits on the inside arm of the chassis immediately in front of the fuel tank.
New brake pads, hoses and even calipers are fitted as the items on this donor vehicle
were in such poor condition that refurbishment was not possible.
The refurbished intercooler and radiator and re-united in the shot blasted and
powder coated original support frame - ready for fitment back to the donor's
rolling chassis.
The front suspension components have received similar attention and look as good
as new when re-fitted. We've used a bright Yellow finish to highlight many of
the components we have refurbished.
The Hibak's roll cage and rear frame are fitted in place - they are a one piece
item and very heavy duty.
Here you can see the rear load bed has been designed to utilise the full width of the car
for maximum loadspace.
Soon to be hidden beneath the rear load bed floor is this huge storage boot
box.
The rear lights are fixed to specially welded in support brackets that are part
of the frame assembly, locating them underneath the floor area provides
protection from any bumps and knocks the vehicle may get.
Our new custom Hibak bodyshell is fitted into place on the Hibak's frame.
The rear load bed fits flush to the bodyshell.
Very nearly finished now - all lights and wiring are connected and tested. The
fuel tank filler neck is plumbed in and a new exhaust system fitted.
Ready to get out and start work!
About to depart to the trimmers to have a custom soft top fitted, just in time
for the vehicles launch at the National Kit-Car show, Stoneleigh.
