Dakar 4x4 V8 RR to Tdi Discovery conversion.
Last updated 14th July 2007.

This conversion of such a recently built Dakar is a lesson in picking the absolute best donor for you conversion that you can. The original build was on a D registered Range Rover 3.5 V8 Efi, but after many running problems during the Stoneleigh Kit Car show, the owner decided to give up on V8's altogether. This is story of the rebuild!

Having only been on the road for 18 months, the stripping down of this Dakar is a very simple task - no seized nuts or hidden rust to surprise us! As you can see though, this conversion to Tdi power is a little more than just an engine swap, it's going to be a full donor swap!

The temptation of almost twice the economy, 35 instead of 18 miles per gallon, simpler engine management, and a later Discovery series interior was just too big a difference to ignore.

The body and roll cage were lifted straight off the Range Rover chassis and stored ready to in turn be dropped onto a suitable Discovery donor.
