TGN 819R -
Refurbishment and upgrade.
Completed
October 2006.
Back into the workshops for an extensive makeover that will include a colour change (courtesy of a new body), new
10" wide steel wheels, and a host of our latest accessories.
Carefully we strip the old body shell of rear lights and the spare wheel
mount at the rear, ready to lift it off the roll cage.
The fuel filler neck is disconnected and the rear seats and trim removed. The
fuel tank on this model Dakar is one of the original low capacity types from a
Vauxhall donor car, this has now been replaced in our product line up with a
Dakar specific item that makes much better use of the space available.
Windscreen and wipers removed, the bolts are removed that secure the front end
to both the bulkhead and the front chassis. We now have a body that is held in
place by just gravity.
Quite a leap forward since our last update, but fitting a new body to an
existing Dakar is a relatively straightforward process. Here you can see the
finished vehicle, the new body shell is in place, together with our latest wheel arches, snorkel, bonnet with scoop and
our latest Dakar livery. As part of the refurbishment you can see we have also
cleaned back and repainted the side sills and steps and generally tidied up the
bottom half of the Dakar to match the new top half!
Original heavy duty rear nudge bar retained, together with unique low mount
spare wheel.
Replacement number plates are recommended before the next MOT as these old ones
are starting to separate.
The original classic Cibie Oscars and Super Oscars were retained and fitted back
on to the nudge bar and Land Rover type rear lights fitted to the rear.
How long before she gets treated to another upgrade and rebuild?
